84 year old Mary O’Halloran and her 79-year-old brother Gerry were held captive at knife point on the morning of the 13th of February last at Gerry's home in Boyce's Street Gurranabraher.
The burglar, who made off with €1800 after threatening the siblings with a knife which he held to their throats. He also cut off the phone line and removed a bulb from a light fixture.
Mary O’Halloran says it was a "terrifying experience" and she is "praying hard" that the man who robbed her and Gerry will be apprehended before he hurts anybody else.
The Echo reports that Gerry was hospitalised for 9 days after the robbery and is currently being cared for at St Mary's healthcare complex.
It is understood that he's too fearful to return home and the local authority is attempting to source alternative accommodation for him.
