Cork Prison's practical culinary skills programme gives prisoners confidence in securing employment upon release.
That's according to the 6 inmates who welcomed over 50 guests including some potential employers from the hospitality industry to the prisons Open Door restaurant yesterday.
The 8 week course which is headed by MTU lecturer JJ Healy is designed to help prisoners learn culinary skills which will enable them to pursue further training.
Speaking to RedFM News, Glen who is a prisoner taking part in the course says it puts prisoners on good paths for after their release:
"It gives you a confidence to try new things, you know, to know that you can wait to something not knowing anything about it doesn't necessarily have to be in cooking or any job in that sector. And you can slowly build yourself up. So, it can put people on good paths when they get out, it's my plan, straight back to work when I get out of here so I want to be lazing around."
