People in Cork have been warned to expect significant disruption and delays in hospitals tomorrow due to planned industrial action.
The Medical Laboratory Scientists Association will be striking between 8 in the morning and 8 in the evening.
The MLSA say there is a severe recruitment and retention problem, as well as issues with pay parity, career development and increasing demands leading to burn out.
The South/South West Hospital Group say the industrial action will lead to the cancellation of many inpatient and day-case elective procedures, hospital outpatient appointments and routine GP testing services.
Hospitals have been contacting patients directly to cancel appointments, and are asking patients not to phone hospitals at this time.
Instead, they say more information on cancelled procedures can be found on hse.ie/disruptions.
