A Cork senator has called for clarity, information and intervention on the possible repurposing of the CoAction children and family centre in Bantry.
Tim Lombard was speaking in the Seanad this morning on the proposed relocation of residents from Bayview House in the town to CoAction centre.
He says the move would be a significant issue for the children and families who rely on the centre, and claims there are several other suitable vacant properties available for repurpose.
Responding to the issue, Minister of State for Disability Anne Rabitte said the proposed plan was in response to a HIQA report, but does not agree with the removal of children's services.
Raising the issue today, Fine Gael senator Tim Lombard expressed his frustration:
"So there is huge issues here and the issues are about communication. The first thing here is we have a board and we have a CEO of CoAction that needs to communicate with the actual patients. They use the service itself, that communication hasn't happened in the last 10 days. We've had an AGM which I was invited to last week down in Skibbereen. The information came out before at around us in GM knock on implications were a week later there's been no communication absolutely no communication from the from the board."
