Cork Simon says the amount of HAP properties failing inspection is disappointing.

New figures from Cork City Council show 80% of properties rented in the city with the Housing Assistance Payment failed inspection last year.

Speaking to RedFM News, Paul Sheehan from Cork Simon says all properties rented from private landlords should be up to standard:

"It's a surprising figure especially when you look at it against the pass rate for private rental figures, we need to be careful that we're not creating a two-tier private rental property system. And that's what it looks like now if you're renting in the private sector under your own resources then the chances are you will get a better property than if you're depending on supports such as HAP."
