69 people were saved from homelessness by Cork Simon Community last year.
That's according to the charity's annual impact report for 2021, which was launched today by Cork Simon resident Tammy Twomey marking its 50th anniversary.
The report highlighted that 234 formerly homeless people were helped to maintain their tenancies and continue working towards rebuilding their lives, and the nightly number of people recorded by the Outreach Team as sleeping rough reduced by 45% to an average of 6 people per night.
Earlier this year, planning permission was approved for a new 78 unit apartment block in the city this year, Cork Simon's biggest housing project yet.
It's hoped the new apartments will decrease homelessness figures in Cork, and help people like Tammy Twomey who has been living in a Simon high support house for the past four years.
Speaking to RedFM News, Tammy says Cork Simon has helped to transform her life:
"They gave me a home and a roof over my head which gave me a life. They gave me a life and they gave me happiness. It is on my hat to set in this home. I'm here four years next month, the day before my birthday. It was the best way to present I ever received."
