Cork staff at the The Body Shop have refused to open the store without pay today
The five workers at the store say they are owed a combined total of more than ten thousand euro in unpaid wages
All seven Body Shop stores closed a day earlier than expected as the company is to go into liquidation next week
Workers were told that they will not be paid for any work performed since February 11th
Speaking to RedFM News Socialist TD Mick Barry says the staff should be first in the line of creditors to be paid not the last
"These workers are owed three weeks wages and holiday pay. Like the Debenhams workers and many others before them they will now have to keep their fingers crossed and hope they can recoup the monies owed to them from a liquidation process. It is a real scandal four years after Debenhams that this Government have still not allowed legislation which would put workers at the top of the queue in such a situation to be passed by the Oireachtas."
