A 17 year old student at the North Mon is hoping to make history today by running from Cork to Galway.

Flobater Fares competed for Team Ireland at the 2019 MMA World Championships and ran 100 kilmetres from Cork to Limerick last year.

The 200 kilometre route will take the ultra-runner from Cork to Limerick and Clare before finishing in Galway.

The young student hopes to complete the run in around 40 hours and is raising money for the Irish Cancer Society.

Speaking to Cork's RedFM recently, Flobater admits it's a daunting challenge.

"I haven't gotten nervous for anything in a very very long time.

"I've been fighting for the last five years, and the last six fights were nothing to me now.

"I'm two and a half weeks out at this stage, and I'm feeling nervous already. It's probably one of the biggest challenges of my life so far.

"So the nerves are kicking in alright yeah!"

You can watch the interview in full with Flobater and his brother Abanoub here.
