A Cork swim club is dreaming big and looking for the public's support to help them get the country's first Olympic sized pool over the line
Dolphin Swimming Club in Mayfield bought the pool thanks to club members donations and has it in storage while they work through the planning process
The club has secured land in Glanmire from the Council and is now seeking financial support through a GoFundMe for the planning permission which is expected to cost €100,000
Speaking to RedFM News Chairman of Dolphin Swim Club Guiseppe Whelan says the pool would make a huge difference to their athletes
"We have a 14year-old old swimmer at the moment in Cork who leaves her house three mornings a week, at 4am to drive to Limerick to train in a 50 metre pool, and she doesn't get back into school till 10.30am in the day. Having a 50 metre facility in Cork would enable these swimmers, absolutely, to go to the next level"
