Concern has been expressed that recent floods in Fermoy will create further problems for people trying to get flood cover in the town.
Cork TD Seán Sherlock says an independent report is needed on the most recent floods to determine whether it was a result of an issue with flood defences or whether it was another issue.
It's hoped a compensation package will be established for those affected, however concern has been expressed that many won't be able to avail of flood insurance for many years.
Speaking to RedFM News Cork TD Seán Sherlock says people who have been affected by floods in the town are owed answers and need support.
"The case for continuing not to insure people has been buttressed now by the fact that there was a breach last week in Fermoy.
"I think we owe it to those people who own and operate businesses and residences to get to the bottom of why this happened.
"I think that is a moral obligation on the part of the OPW and the Cork County Council, not to seek to find blame, but to learn from the mistakes that might have been made, if mistakes were made or whether or not it was an act of God - we need to find facts."
