A Cork TD has renewed his call for the state to drop its appeal against being awarded €14.9 billion in unpaid taxes by Apple in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Mick Barry made the call after it was revealed the Department of Finance has spent €8.4 million on legal fees and consultancy on the case up to the end of March.

One legal firm was paid more than €3 million, while four individual legal practitioners have been paid more than half a million Euro.

Speaking to RedFM News, Cork Solidarity TD Mick Barry says the money could be put to good use during the current economic slowdown.

"The state should drop its appeal now and go after the Apple money.

"The state cannot afford to pass up on money like that, given the scale of the challenge now faced in providing investment and jobs in the coming months and years.
