A Cork South West TD is calling on the Government not to increase the 9% VAT Rate at the end of this month.
The Fianna Fail councillor said it would have a devastating effect on Hairdressers and the Hospitality sector if the rate were to return to 13.5%.
Christopher O'Sullivan claims west Cork is the Wedding Capital of Ireland and says businesses there and throughout the country face desolation.
"I'm from Clonakility, and in that area alone there's a real concentration of fantastic wedding venues.
"In the Clonakility/Rosscarbery area you have the likes of Fernhill, Dunmore, The Celtic Ross and Inchydoney, and these have become very popular wedding locations.
"Part of that is the offshoot sectors that benefit from that and one of those is certainly hairdressing.
"I don't think you'll find a higher concentration of excellent wedding venues anywhere in Ireland, so it's certainly a claim I will stand by."
