A Cork TD has called on the Government to intervene and ensure schools do not lose the free meals scheme amid the cost of living crisis.
Donnchadh O Laoghaire spoke in the Dáil this week about a Cork school who recently lost the providers of their free meals.
The Sinn Féin TD says he fears that the loss would expand to other schools across the county.
Speaking to RedFM News, Donnchadh O Laoghaire says the scheme is a huge help to families:
"It is a huge addition to families to know that their child is going to go to school and is going to get a meal, and and ideally is going to get a hot meal. It means they can do better in school, they can concentrate better. And for those in the greatest need, that makes a huge difference".
