A Cork TD says he hopes lessons will be learned following a major fish kill on a river in North Cork last week
5,000 fish were discovered dead in an 8km stretch of the River Allow following a discharge of chemicals from a water treatment
In the Dail Labour's Sean Sherlock was assured that the Environment Minister will be meeting with the CEO of Uisce Eireann on the matter shortly
Deputy Sherlock has described the fish kill as "unforgiveable"
"I feel this is a very serious incident, because I feel strongly that fish kills arising from entities that are operated by statutory bodies in this day and age, is entirely unforgivable. And to my mind, entirely avoidable"
