A Cork TD says that people with disabilities are being "neglected" and not treated with "dignity and respect".
He was reacting to delays in assessing Primary Medical Certificate applications.
The certs allow someone with a permanent disability get tax-relief, namely on VRT and VAT, when buying a specially constructed or adapted vehicle.
Speaking to RedFM News, Cork South-Central TD, Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire says that no only is the application process too strict but also huge delays are holding people back:
"The other is issue is huge delays, enormous delays here in Cork and elsewhere across the country - of months and months - and six or seven months for an appeal. That's holding people back from employment, that's holding them back from being able to enjoy their lives. And it has a huge impact and it's simply not good enough. It is another example of people with disabilities being neglected and not being treated with adequate dignity and respect."
