Cork will be under a Yellow Weather advisory for 24 hours from 6pm this evening
Heavy rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Munster and Connaught with a warning of spot flooding in places
Met Éireann say the highest rainfall totals are likely to be near the west coast on high ground.
Alan O'Reilly from Carlow Weather says temperatures are also set to fall:
"Well, we have much cooler and unsettled weather unfortunately today compared to yesterday: Temperatures dropping back, winds increasing, and also some thundery downpours. Heavy showers arriving in from the west, but they will really hit many areas through today and this evening. But then we have a risk of thunderstorms from this evening through until Saturday evening. The worst of those will be in the west, with the heaviest falls expected along the west coast and the Southwest".
