Cork University Hospital has been trying to control a superbug in the hospital for the past two years.

The outbreak of CPE was first found in July 2018, with the first cases in a ward which was overdue refurbishment.

The Irish Examiner reports through Freedom of Information that the bug has still had a presence at the facility over the past 10 months.

The hospital declined to comment on the effect of Covid-19 on tackling the bug - however said there were no current cases at the hospital.

CPE is resistant to most antibiotics.
