Cork University Hospital Say Efforts To Fill Consultant Posts Are Ongoing

It comes as concerns are raised about waiting lists in the wake of the pandemic, and a warning from the Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation

The nursing union say overcrowding at the hospital during a pandemic is a danger to patients and staff.

The HSE says it takes an average of over two years to hire a hospital consultant.

A spokesperson for CUH told RedFM News that 14 vacant consultant posts are being filled by a locum doctor at the moment and a further 5 vacant positions are also in the early stages of the recruitment process.

Speaking to RedFM News, Liam Conway from the INMO in Cork says there were 50 people without a bed at CUH yesterday, and outlines the impact overcrowding has on services:
