A woman, who kept more than a dozen dogs in “appalling conditions” for long periods of time has been banned from owning animals.

Miriam Santry of The Meadows, Belgooly plead guilty to 12 offences under the Animal Health and Welfare Act 2013 in Bandon district court last week

13 dogs were found at a property in Kinsale and three dogs were found in a Belgooly address.

The dogs did not have access to food or water, and there was urine and faeces on the floors and the crates.

Veterinary examinations revealed the dogs had a number of health issues with some requiring extra medical treatment.

Judge Philip O’Leary said that it was clear from the evidence there had been an appalling treatment of animals over a considerable period of time,

Ms Santry was fined €250 and has been ordered her to surrender any animals she currently owns to the ISPCA
