A Cork woman, who graduated from UCC with a Bachelor of Science in 1964, was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Medicine by her alma mater yesterday.
Dr Veronica Delaney grew up in the city, was the first member of her family to go to university, and is currently Professor of Medicine and Nephrology at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.
Her daughter, who was US President Barack Obama's Ambassador to the United Nations, Samantha Power, was also in attendance.
Almost 200 medical students also graduated from UCC yesterday.
