Cork's RedFM has teamed up with the Gaelic Players Association, the Road Safety Authority and the Gardai in an effort to save Cork lives on the roads this Christmas.

12 people have lost their lives on Cork roads since the start of this year and the Road Safety Authority are asking people to consider how they can improve their own driving to prevent further fatalities.

The road safety campaign, supported by Cork's RedFM, is urging all motorists to prioritise their performance behind the wheel and maintain absolute focus when driving.

The campaign running across Cork's RedFM in the run up to Christmas features Cork camogie and football player Hannah Looney along with Cork hurling superstar Patrick Horgan reminding motorists of the importance of wearing a seat belt, driving to the road conditions and watching their speed.

Speaking to RedFM News Tom Parsons from the GPA is urging people to switch off their mobile phones before they drive off.

"We know how dangerous it is using mobile phones while driving.

"On average people are getting a notification every ten minutes to their phone - please turn off the phone, put it on the back seat and drive safely.

"This is a really important message from the Road Safety Authority and the Gaelic Players Association."
