Cork's Second Ever Taoiseach Has Returned Leeside

Micheal Martin arrived back in Cork in the past hour

He was met by a crowd singing 'The Banks of My Own Lovely Lee'.

The Turner's Cross native was elected Taoiseach by the Dail yesterday, as the new Programme for Government was approved by coalition parties Fianna Fail, Fine Gael, and the Green Party.

Micheal Martin, who has served as a TD for the Cork South-Central Constituency since 1989 received his seal as Taoiseach from President Michael D. Higgins yesterday afternoon.

He became only the second Corkman to do so, after Jack Lynch left office in 1979.

Following this he appointed Simon Coveney being appointed Minister for Foreign Affairs and Defence, and Michael McGrath becoming minister for Public Enterprise and Reform.

Sinn Fein is now the largest opposition party.
