A mother of three young children says some parents are finding it impossible to find any further room in their budget and are being left with no other option but to buy less food.

Marie Claire Jennequin was speaking at a press conference ahead of the third Cost of Living Campaign protest, which is taking place on Grand Parade in the city at 2pm on Saturday.

The organisers say the government have not done enough to protect the most vulnerable and are calling for caps on rent, energy and the price of food.

Speaking to RedFM News, Marie Claire says working families like hers are under severe pressure.

"The biggest issues that we're facing at the moment are very often with the costs associated with simply putting food on the table for our families.

"There's literally nothing that hasn't increased in a weekly shop, absolutely nothing. At this point, myself and other families are about as frugal as we can possibly get now, there is no more 'go for the cheapest option'. We have gone as cheap as we can. The only other option remaining then is buy less food."

Marie Claire told RedFM News that parents are growing increasingly desperate to find money.

"I've come across some parents who unfortunately have had to resort to to loan sharks and taking out loans that they simply can't afford to pay back, and that's just because yes, that in sheer desperation they'll do absolutely anything to get their children through through the winter months and deal with the consequences of that after."
