Council Being Called On To Prioritise The Repair Of Ballincollig Regional Park Weir

It follows the tragic death of Bernard Geasley who has been described as a hero for his actions on the night he died.

The 38 year old drowned on Sunday night after he jumped into the river to save his brother who had gotten into difficulty while swimming.

The area of the river is known for dangerous undercurrents which pulled the Ballincollig man under the water.

Rescue teams recovered his body just after 12:30am yesterday.

Speaking to RedFM News, local Councillor Colm Kelleher says the issue with the weir, which collapsed in 2014 has been highlighted before:
