Parts of Glanmire were left under water as the village was hit by a deluge of water which at one stage saw access to the village closed off and the army deployed
Two culverts in the village were blocked and damaged during the flooding
City Council Engineer David Joyce told RedFM News that the blockage of a culvert at Church Hill played a significant role in the village flooding at that point
"Specifically at that location the end of Church Hill, you had a significant amount of water coming down the hill and it could not go through the culvert. The culvert was partially blocked with mattresses, with bikes, and with the debris that got caught in that. So that's what caused the pressure build up. And that was a significant contributing factors to that culvert getting damaged, and that road been closed for two days"
