Members of Cork County Council's northern division are appealing for an urgent meeting with Transport Minister Eamon Ryan to address dangerous roads in the area.
They are calling on the immediate allocation of funds to Transport Infrastructure Ireland so that two of the busiest roads in the region: the N72 and N73 can be repaired and upgraded.
It had been planned that the N72 Mallow-Fermoy Road and the N73 Mallow-Mitchelstown Road would undergo major overhauls to make them safer but the TII delayed funding for the projects.
Speaking to RedFM News, County Councillor Noel McCarthy says that even the main street of Fermoy is in a totally unacceptable condition:
"Even our main street in Fermoy, Patrick's Street in Fermoy, which is part of the N72 is in a terrible condition and totally unacceptable for the people Fermoy and for people that visit our town and shop in our town. It's totally unacceptable."
