The County Council's director of roads has called for significant investment into roads across the county.
Speaking at a Southern Committee meeting, Padraig Barrett said roads in Cork County are dramatically underfunded, and must be brought up to a higher standard.
His comments come after record high funding was spent on regional and local roads in Cork this year.
Drainage issues, poor surfacing and structure were the main problems discussed at the meeting.
Mr. Barrett said some rural projects were deferred last year due to increased costs, but is confident they will be completed by the end of 2022.
