The crew of the LÉ William Butler Yeats are making the final preparations at Haulbowline Naval Base ahead of a six week mission to the Mediterranean.
The 58-strong crew leave on Thursday and are tasked with enforcing an arms embargo on Libya and backing up UN operations to prevent petroleum smuggling from the country.
It will be the first overseas deployment for the majority of the crew who have been training for the mission for the past 5 months.
Petty Officer Kara Foley is taking part in the mission and told RedFM News why she joined the naval service:
