Criminal barristers who stood on the steps of the Courthouse on Washington Street this morning won’t be in court today.

Criminal law practitioners are participating in a national withdrawal of services with the Bar of Ireland.

The Bar Council of Cork say they have suffered a 40 percent pay cut over the last 20 years despite having to deliver additional practices.

Speaking to RedFM News, Tom Creed, Senior Council says court cases in the District Court will go ahead:

"What we're about is trying to highlight the predicament that the bar finds itself in as a result of all these cuts and non reversal of it. So, I mean, we didn't say approach the solicitors to say look, we think you should possibly consider [withdrawing services] so the District Court is still operating in Cork and in other places. So that's not an issue at the moment."
