Cork University Hospital is asking the public only to attend the Emergency Department if absolutely necessary.

The hospital is working to manage a surge in Covid-19 activity as well as increased emergency presentations, resulting in more admissions.

In a statement to RedFM News, CUH say regrettably "some patients may experience a delay in the ED" and that "emergency and time-critical care for the sickest patients is being prioritised".

Management at CUH are encouraging the public to avail of other healthcare options before attending the Emergency Department including:

Their General Practitioner / South Doc,
The Mercy Urgent Care Centre, St. Mary's Health Campus, Gurranabraher, Cork. Telephone: 021-4926900,
The Local Injuries Unit at Bantry General Hospital. Telephone: 027 50133, and
The Local Injuries Unit at Mallow General Hospital. Telephone: 022 58506.
