Management at Cork University Hospital say the Emergency Department is exceptionally busy today and has been so over the last number of days.
They say a large number of very ill medical-patients requiring admission are presenting at the hospital.
This increased level of activity means some patients are experiencing delays in the ED.
Hospital management are requesting that, where appropriate, the public explore all other options prior to attending the Emergency Department if their needs are not urgent.
