The Dáil has heard claims communities in Cork city feel "neglected and terrified" by recent violence in the city.
The second petrol bomb attack of the week caused significant damage to a house in Gurranabraher yesterday evening, while shots have also been fired at two houses in the Ballyvolane area in recent weeks.
Several children escaped injury when a petrol bomb was thrown at a house in Onslow Gardens on Monday night.
Sinn Féin TD Donnchadh O Laoghaire told Tánaiste Micheál Martin that the Justice Minister is failing the community:
"Despite the best efforts of local gardai under Minister McEntee communities in Cork city do not have enough gardai on the beat. In 2009 there were 31 gardai in Mahon Garda station, just down the road from you, that has gone from down to 22 and now to 17, this month as I told you last week, Cork city has only gotten one guard that came out of Templemore"
