The cost of repairing roads across North and North West Cork following last week's big freeze could run into millions of euro
Cork County Council is to assess the full extent of the damage over the next fortnight before submitting a report to Government seeking funding for the repairs
An initial survey of the 1800 kilometres of damaged roads has led Council engineers to warn that the repair work is expected to cost millions of euro
Speaking to RedFM News County Engineer Padraig Barrett says heavy rain along with persistent freezing and thawing has led to road surfaces cracking in several areas
"It's the number of roads and the extent of the problem. The surface has been damaged, and we have to go out and do an assessment, do the quantities, and then estimate the cost"
