Cork Missing Persons Search and Recovery have recovered 10 life rings from the River Lee in the last 8 weeks unconnected to any rescues
The life rings are usually found in the river following busy weekends in the city
The Cork Missing Persons group work all year round to support gardai and the Coastguard on rescue missions
Speaking to RedFM News David Varian from the voluntary organisation says a life ring thrown away is a life lost
"It's just lack of education, maybe that they don't understand exactly what it is. It's a life saving appliance. And I mean, if there was a defibrillator on the side of the river, somebody would not throw a defibrillator into the river. So a life ring is the the exact same as a defib - it is there to save a life"
