Doug Fishbone, a ‘stand up conceptual artist,’ is the artist selected to reopen Crawford Gallery in Cork city centre & he’s doing so with a jaw-dropping piece that must be seen to be believed….
He’s created an immense architectural model of a derelict housing estate from the Irish property boom and bust (the apartment section of the Castlelake development in Carrigtohill) and plonked it right smack bang in the middle of the museum, inside of which he is presenting a new film which examines how instability and collapse are coded into the very way modern money works - from the Nixon Shock in 1971 to the ongoing corporate bailouts of today - and unmasks an economic system which is far dodgier than it seems.
