A decision is expected on planning permission for the Marina Market.

The Cork city market first opened during the pandemic, in a warehouse on Kennedy Quay, and has been operating without planning permission.

The Irish Examiner report that CPR Properties, who run the Market, had launched a fresh planning bid in May, after their first application was turned down by the council.

The new planning application said that Market would remove all outdoor seating, and reduce the floor space for use by the public to 5,000 square metres at any one time.

The new proposals would also remove access to the market to and from Kennedy Quay.

The Port of Cork Company has requested the the planning permission be refused, saying that insufficient capacity at the car park means that Kennedy Quay has become an unauthorised overflow carpark, and that the issues relating to the public's health and safety are not resolvable by a traffic management plan while the quays are operational.

Cork City Council originally set today as their deadline for its decision.
