A garda station in one of Cork's biggest commuter towns is only open eight hours a week and every second Sunday for three hours

25,000 people live in Carrigaline and there have long been calls for the Garda station opening hours to be extended

Gardaí conducted a review of the opening hours and now say the station will be open for two hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays and two evenings a week for 2 hours

Speaking to RedFM News Local TD Seamus McGrath who has long been calling for a stronger garda presence says it's disappointing

"It isn't enough. I'm strongly of the view that Garda stations should be accessible to the public, and certainly a town like Carrigalinee, with a catchment area of thirty thousand people, the garda station's opening hours should be greater. And it is something thatam going to continue to work on"
