Up to 150 people held a demonstration last night outside a B&B in Fermoy which has been earmarked to host international protection applicants in 'the very near future'
A group of protesters has been camped near the entrance to Abbeyville Guesthouse for a number of weeks now to object to the proposed occupation of the house by up to 56 people.
Public representatives in the locality have received notification from the Department of Integration that the building in Fermoy was ready to commence use
Fianna Fail Councillor William O'Leary told the Neil Prendeville Show that locals are concerned
"The actions of some of these people and companies who buy these buildings in rural towns and in places that they put into use for this purpose, in most cases these people are not from the areas and they are far removed from where they purchased these buildings. They don't care about the local communities that they put them into and they certainly don't care about the effects it has on people living there"
