Details of a major proposed expansion of a northside cemetery are to be published for public consultation.
The extension of St Catherine’s Cemetery in Kilcully is set to include the city’s first dedicated eco-burial site as well as mini-plots for the burial of cremated remains.
St Catherine’s already has around 6,000 plots.
The Irish Examiner is reporting today that the extension will provide an additional 2,000 plots.
The expansion will also cater for some eco-burial plots.
This type of grave uses small markers rather that headstones and are laid out irregularly, linked by winding grassy paths.
The papers says that eco-burial plots grow to become a living, native Irish woodland and wildflower meadow.
