The National Transport Authority will publish its report on sustainable transport corridors, with the Irish Examiner reporting that proposals include 75 kilometres of new bus lanes and 54 kilometres of cycle routes in 12 strategic transport corridors.
At present Cork city has just 14 kilometres of bus lanes, and the planned transport corridors are designed to remove delays currently experienced by buses in the city and to give passengers greater certainty about bus arrival and bus journey times
The Bus Connects project includes a redesign of the city’s bus network, the building of new bus and cycle lanes, the introduction of a new ticketing system and a cashless payment scheme, new bus shelters, new park-and-ride facilities, and new zero-emissions vehicles.
It’s hoped the Bus Connects Cork programme will be finalised early next year with a view to implementing the final proposals from 2023
