A Cork swim club has welcomed comments by the Sport Minister that the Government will assist with the capital and running costs for a 50 metre swimming pool for Cork
Minister Thomas Byrne is also urging Cork City and County Councils to help find a site for the Olympic sized pool
Dolphin Swim Club in Mayfield bought the pool - worth €1.1 million - at a discounted rate and it is currently in storage until a suitable site can be found
Speaking to RedFM News Martin Leahy from the Club says they are moving closer to realising their dream
"Obviously this isn't anywhere near the finish line just yet but it's another major step forward and great support from the Government for what we are trying to do . We see it as a step along the road and a good significant step along that road"
The club has a GoFundMe as they try to raise the costs associated with the planning permission, if you would like to support the campaign click here.
