A file is to be prepared for the DPP following the release without charge of a man in his forties arrested in connection with the death of a woman who was knocked down by a car in Ballingeary following a funeral.
51 year old Gobnait Twomey had been walking home after attending her uncle's funeral with her mother and sister when was struck by a car on the Main Street shortly after 1am on Tuesday.
Her older sister, Caitriona, incurred a broken leg and arm in the incident but her mother Eibhlis escaped serious injury as she was pushed out of the path of the car.
The driver was arrested at the scene and taken to Bandon Garda Station in west Cork for questioning. He was subsequently released without charge and a file will be prepared for the DPP.
Investigations into the collision are under investigation and anyone with any information is asked to contact Macroom Garda Station on (026) 20590 or any Garda Station.
