Drivers are being asked to think of the consequences of losing their licence before getting behind the wheel.
It comes as 9 people have lost their lives on the island's roads over the Christmas period.
Gardaí will be operating alcohol and drug detection checkpoints throughout the city and county following a recent spike in the number of drivers being arrested for driving while intoxicated.
The RSA says over a third of drivers killed between 2013 and 2017 had alcohol in their system.
Most arrests for drink driving in men is spread across the late teens to mid forties while female arrests peak in the 35 to 44 age group.
Speaking to RedFM News, Brian Farrell from the Road Safety Authority says drug drivers are also being targeted:
"I think one of the big stories of the pandemic was the number of Drug Drivers that were being caught by the Gardaí. So people need to understand that if you are caught drinking and driving, if you are caught drug driving, you're facing an automatic ban. Every drink driving offence now carries a disqualification and people really need to think about what a disqualification, the loss of your licence, would mean for you, your family and potentially your employment, your job as well."
