A drug trafficking ship seized off the coast of Cork has cost the state €5.3m so far.

It's been over a year ago since the MV Matthew was taken over during an inter-agency operation.

The ship- which had travelled from South America- was boarded by the Army Ranger Wing on the 26th of September 2023.

2.2 tonnes of cocaine - worth around €157m was seized- and the vessel was tied up at the deep sea quay in Cobh.

The state has had to preserve the vessel as the men accused of offences related to the seizure may want to board the ship if their cases go to trial.

Revenue confirmed the total costs associated with the ship are around €5.3m.
