An East Cork boy has settled a high action against the HSE for €20 million.
Alex Foley from Midleton, who was born on October 5, 2010 at Cork University Maternity Hospital and suffered hypovolaemic shock during his birth due to a ruptured vasa praevia, which went undiagnosed during his mother Laurane’s pregnancy.
The 11 year old has cerbal aplasey suffers mobility and cognitive difficulties and has developed epilepsy. His twin brother Jacob was born with no difficulties.
The Echo reports in 2016, an interim settlement of €1.98 million was approved by the High Court and a final settlement of €18 million was approved yesterday.
Next May, he will travel to the US in May to have surgery on his Achilles area and will also have surgery for his feet.
He previously travelled to the US in 2015 to help him walk for the first time and returned in 2019 to have his hamstrings lengthened.
