24-year old Private Seán Rooney was killed on Wednesday, in the same attack.
Members of the Defence Forces have travelled to Lebanon to assist the UN in their investigation.
Speaking to RedFM News, the chairman of Shane's local Killeagh GAA Club says the family is grateful for all those who are supporting them:
"The family, they just like to thank everyone for all the good wishes and that if they could keep Shane in their thoughts, and just pray for them, and hope that everything turns out okay. They feel that just if people keep Shane in their thoughts and say a prayer for him, that would help".
