The Eating Disorder Centre in the city are urgently appealing for therapists to come forward to help them deal with a waiting list of up to 90 clients.

The centre on Penrose Quay has seen a large increase in demand and is looking for qualified therapists to contact them.

The charity has eight therapists and 220 clients ranging in age from 10 to 80, while the current wait time for new clients is between two weeks and three months .

Speaking to RedFM News, Clinical Manager Erin O’Reilly outlines how things have changed since she joined the centre over two and a half years ago:

"There would have been maybe five people assessed per month, maybe four or five people. Now currently, we would assess at least 25 a month. So everything has gone into overdrive. We might have got one phone call a day, maybe a few weeks. Now the phone is hopping constantly. People are very stressed very under stress and we're happy to provide whatever service we can and help as many people as we can. We need more resources and we need more therapists and that's a huge part of it."

The Eating Disorder Centre Cork can be contacted on 021 452 99 00.
