The Government is being urged to step in and urgently address the overcrowding crisis at Cork University Hospital
Sinn Fein's Donnchadh Ó Laoghaire says the situation at CUH - where 75 people are being treated on trolleys- is intolerable
President of the Association of Emergency Medicine Conor Deasy has warned that the ED at CUH is operating at over 300% capacity.
Speaking on the Neil Prendeville Show Deputy Ó Laoghaire says the Government is ignoring calls for additional beds and patients are paying the price
"The CUH along with UHL are clearly the worst situations they are not getting the investment it deserves. It is totally unfair on staff they are getting pulled from pillar to post. But you can't have that level of excess capacity, that many people on trolleys and that many in the emergency departments and it not have an impact on outcomes and on health. The situation at the CUH is at the most severe end, but the whole system is under severe pressure"
