The government has announced plans for a new metropolitan rail network for Cork that includes eight new stations on the Cobh, Midleton and Mallow rail routes.
Transport Minister Eamon Ryan made the announcement on twitter today.
There will be a new station on the Cobh to Cork line at Ballynoe and four new stations at Waterock, Carrigtwohill West, Dunkettle and Tivoli on the Midleton/Cobh line.
The Cork to Mallow service will see three new stops at Blackpool/Kilbarry, Monard and Blarney/Stoneview.
The Minister also announced an expansion of Irish Rail's fleet, with 90 battery-electric train carriages set to be delivered in 2026.
The new carriages will be used on the DART in Dublin and may be used in the future for the Cork Area Commuter Rail network that serves, Mallow, Cobh, Midleton and the city.
