Bord Gáis Energy has announced it will partner with solar company Amarenco to develop eight solar farms in Co Cork.
Each of the farms will generate up to 5 mega watts of power which the group says is enough to power around 8,000 homes.
Bord Gáis will manage the electricity produced from the solar farms and will include it as part of its renewable offering which is currently in excess of 220 mega watts.
Recent deals have also added over 176 mega watts of solar power to the groups portfolio, which will allow the company to provide renewable power to over 164,000 homes.
